Twiglet #63

A twiglet is a short phrase. Or a word. Its aim is to “prompt” a flow. A thought. A memory. If something comes to mind, write. A polished piece isn’t the goal; creativity is. Leave a link, if you’d like your work read, but comments should not be expected. Twiglets are posted on Tuesdays.

  1. Velvet Constraints

    The stones lie still
    and perhaps a little deeper
    on the hillside cushioned
    into the pale moss
    I am like them
    in their rootless rest
    embedded in the hills
    and held by soft restrains.

            1. John and Gabi are having their first child next month. A girl. They’ll name her Luisa. I’m endlessly grateful for Skype and FaceTime.

              1. Yes, me too. My first granddaughter is almost three months. We haven’t seen her in person since her birth. But her parents do send lots of pictures and vids on the phone. Hopefully by the end of Feb we can go.

  2. FIVE STONE-STILL POEMS

    1
In the unblinking eye of the robin
    perched in the sycamore,
    all is still.

    2
Bloodless lips twisting to a farewell smile,
    a final expired breath,
    a stone-still voyager.

    3
    Mountainside stones are still
despite the unrelenting winds of winter.
    Only faith can move them.

    4
Home-free, you will not tag me.
Tall hedges hide me and I hold my breath
    and pretend myself stone-still.

    5
Tell me now you love me
while this heart beats and welcomes
your kindness. Once stone-cold and still,
gone, it will be too late.

  3. Is it still stoning out?
Those rough days of the year
    when the sky is
so hard, so grey, so impervious
    To the sun , that
    the color of our eyes
    turns to granite,
    and the birds
    sound like flint
    from across the field
