A twiglet’s aim is to “prompt” a thought. If something comes to mind, write. A polished piece isn’t the goal; creativity is. Leave a link, if you’d like your work read, but comments should not be expected.

  1. Trying to combine yours and Mz Quickly’s.

    Heavy Air

    Bad News First

    The silence is oppressive,
    heavy, like pie weights on
    an uncooked crust. But, still
    I shrink inside myself.

    Then, the Good

    The heaviness lifts. I feel
    buoyant. Light-headed
    with relief even though
    the car was totaled.

    More Bad News

    “Mom, Dad,” he said, head
    in his hands, I’m quitting
    college. I’m wasting my time
    and your money.”

    Could Be Better

    He’s enlisting. Not wasting
    time on self-pity.

    Better

    He got his wings.

    Best

He was just a boy, but spread
his wings. The boy is a man,
    my shrinking heart now swells.

    1. My brain was a tad fried. Between house chores and just attempting to breath I didn’t get much writing or reading in today. Your verse though reminds me of some of my own family – a niece and nephew both in the service. Their mother very proud indeed.

  2. Summer Where I Am

    Between humming birds and buzzards
    summing words and buzz words
    rocky road and frozen yogurt
the barn swallows the barn swallows
their swallow tails like mandarins’ nails
they cut the heavy July sky
    piano wires carving porcelain mud.
