I don’ t know what happened to this post. Here’s another try:

I’m going to playing around today, and experiment. I suspect that it’s something to do with the format block, ie poem format block, you used on your original post. It actually looks like a quote block to me.

Very annoying.

And I don’t know what to do about it. Some of the links posted here don’t embed though!

Misky, mine do not embed because I am still able to put my links in the old fashioned way – copy and pasting my link in code – but then my blog is still able to function via the Classic Editor. See my note to Barb.

I just recreated it. If you use the Verse block, it creates the type of format you see above. I think WordPress has changed something…
ps: I’ve played more, and discovered that WordPress is now using an Embedded Block whenever you insert a URL into a comment. I don’t like it.

Misk,
I don’t know why this post is showing up in this format.

For creating a post or here for the comment? I’m not keen on this embedded link nonsense in the comment field. I’ve sent a screen grab to you by email that might be of use to you.

Barb,
Go to your WP dashboard (At least for me -I’ve been using an old WP blog for a long time, I won’t start a new one if I can’t work in Classic Mode). if I go to All Posts on the left of the dashboard (to add a new post in the upper left corner it gives you a choice as to Block Editor or Classic Editor (second option) – I always choose Classic editor. Even in my posts I get the option to edit in Classic Editor. I haven’t yet had to deal with Block Editor!!! (Yet…)

Barb… Dang, they did it to me too! Guess ‘this Old Dog’ is going to have to learn some new tricks.
Why can’t BP just leave the Classic Editor alone. Because if you want the Classic Editor.. (I discovered -) you have to pay for an upgrade and get the Plug In. Guess having free advertising on free sites wasn’t bring them enough income.

Barb – I got it back – I got the Classic Editor back!!!
I’m going to send you and email – follow the link, and the instructions.
Be patient, toggle the switch – it works!!!

Can you post the link here, should anyone else wish to use the classic view? 😃

For help to get to the Classic View:
(remember to a) save changes and b) refresh your page!! I didn’t do that the first time and thought it didn’t work…)
Return to …what was! I am refraining from using ‘names’ so as to not jinx anything 😉

Oh… my left side info panel doesn’t look like the one in the link. If you have any questions please ask the folks at the site where the link is as they are probably better at helping you than I would be. Good luck.

I use blocks almost exclusively now, but I thought others here might benefit from what you learned. Thanks for the link, Jules.

I know some say resistance is futile…
but I like to work in my own documents and copy and paste.
I might experiment though with one of my closed private sites.
I can’t copy and paste images from my documents. I can get images into my docs, but they don’t transfer to WP in HTML. So I figured out how to switch between the Visual and HTML. It’s just what I’m used to.
