when everyone is too busy
there is no time for smothering years
you can enjoy an enormous amount of freedom
you can think and do whatever you like
as long as you are smart enough
to keep below the radar and
never bring attention to yourself

S’Mothering Years
When I finally got to take a deep breath,
look around in the unaccustomed silence,
I realized those crowded, adlib years
of wif-ing, parenting, serving, giving
had given way to plenty of time for me.
And then I remember what someone said
“Be careful what you wish for.”
