Sunset Over the Ocean
Psychedelic orangey orb in a darkening sky
striated with cerise and cherry red splotches
distorted image mirrored on a choppy sea
the susurrant sun slides toward the horizon
until it touches that fine line between
sky and sea.
My expectation is to hear a sizzling hiss
of flame extinguished in clouds of hot mist
but the color drains and disappears silently.
Inky darkness overhead, stars blink into view
and I am alone in reverent harmony with the
sky and sea.

Susurrant new word for me – thanks. Kind of like gossamer for light.
Lovely. When we visited Maui the sun sank quickly. But at the Jersey shore it does sink slower. 🙂
